There are two floating cities on opposite sides of the earth that hold the base of the two great space elevators. One off the coast from Perth, Australia and the other off the coast of Hamilton, Bermuta, both are owned and governed as commonwealth of the British Empire. At the other end of the massive cable are the two great cities on the tripshires of Overland and Underland.
The cabin, built like a zepplin or cruise ship cabin is a contained town under the rule of the Elevator Captains, loyal to the crown. The wealthy travelers are one the outside and top of the cabin while common passengers are on the interior. It takes the cabin about 30 days at a little better than 15 meters per second to go one way.
